ECOSTARS Edinburgh had its official launch on the 26 January 2012 at the Business Centre of the City Chambers on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. At this event awards and certificates were be presented to inaugural scheme members by Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, Transport Leader for the City of Edinburgh Council. He said: "I am delighted to be able to present some of our inaugural ECOSTARS Edinburgh members with five-star awards. This shows the dedication and commitment of fleet operators in
Edinburgh to reducing the environmental impact of freight traffic as it passes through the city."
Edinburgh was the first local authority in
Scotland to be part of the ECOSTARS project and this demonstrates our commitment to working with fleet operators to reduce emissions. However to make a significant impact on air quality in
Edinburgh, we need operators to take responsibility for the emissions their vehicles generate. I would encourage them to take action now to preserve our city for future generations.”
